The plot of this movie takes place in New York, around 1950. Carol Aird is going through a really difficult time as she is divorcing Harge Aird, a marriage that was all about maintaining the status, as Harge knew that in the past his wife had an affair with a woman, Abby. Meanwhile, Carol meets Therese, a photographer, and as the two of them become close friends, Harge decides to petition the judge to consider a “morality clause” against Carol, threatening to expose her homosexuality and give him full custody of Rindy, their daughter, and hires a private investigator in order to have evidence against her, and he obtains it. During a confrontational meeting with divorce lawyers, Carol refuses to deny her sexuality any longer and admits that she is, indeed, homosexual.
This movie acknowledges LGBTQ+, discrimination/homophobia.
